Dexter Lindo, a suspected bandit who was shot on Saturday during a confrontation with a licensed firearm holder, succumbed early yesterday morning to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Balwant Singh Hospital.
In a release, police said that Lindo, 26, of Lot 208 Shell Road, Kitty was one of two men armed with handguns who entered the Wayne Beverage Paradise Stall at Merriman Mall, Bourda.
“Upon seeing the men, the female owner ran and raised an alarm and a licensed firearm holder responded,” the release said.
When this newspaper visited the area, residents declined to divulge any information about what may have transpired.
However, Lindo’s father, Andrew Duesbury, told Stabroek News yesterday that even if his son was a robber he didn’t deserve to die in such a manner. “If he was a robber he didn’t deserve to die like that. If he was this big robber then the police should have locked him up long now,” he said. Duesbury also said that he is yet to see the gun that the police said his son had in his possession. “I haven’t seen no gun wah they talking about. I want to see the gun wah they talking about,” he added.
According to the police, the two armed men entered a waiting motor vehicle driven by an accomplice and were tracked by the licensed firearm holder in his vehicle who subsequently saw the getaway car at Light and Sixth streets, Albertown.
“The licensed firearm holder confronted a man who had exited the car and entered a shop in the area, during which the man pulled out a firearm and was shot to his abdomen by the licensed firearm holder. The man however managed to escape on foot, but the unlicensed .32 Beretta pistol with 4 rounds that he had in his possession was recovered and handed over to the police,” the release said.
The man said that his son would normally hang out with his friends at the corner of Light and Sixth streets, Albertown and that he left home to go there on Saturday.
He also said that those involved in the shooting of his son were trying to “cover it up”.
“There was an incident …My son parked his car and came out and he was shot and he fell to the ground…Bai Bai (the man who it is alleged shot his son) gun was used, but is not Bai Bai shoot him, he gave his gun to someone else who shot my son…Now they trying to cover it up,” he added.
Further, Duesbury said that the other man who was with his son has since gone into hiding since he is fearful for his life after “he get beat up.”
The vehicle used by the perpetrators has since been detained by the police as the investigations continue, police said.
Lindo’s body is currently at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
