A man was yesterday accused of threatening to kill Magistrate Clive Nurse and his family.
The charge against Wesley Payne is that on August 5, at Burnham Drive Wismar, Linden, he used threatening language to Magistrate Nurse, who presides at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court, thereby resulting in a breach of the peace.
Payne, 44, a father of six, denied the charge when it was read to him at his arraignment before Magistrate
Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
When asked the nature of the threatening language the defendant used, Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth told the court that Payne told the magistrate “I will send my boys to kill you and your family when you travelling down from the highway and burn down the court at Linden.”
No further details about the charge were related to the court.
Ricknauth objected to Payne being granted bail. “It is a magistrate he threatened to kill,” he noted.
However, Magistrate Latchman released Payne on $60,000 bail and ordered him to return to court on September 16.
Meanwhile, as he was being escorted from the courtroom, Payne loudly cursed a man seated in the public gallery.
He shouted, “If I de get charge in Linden it would-a be more rough,” and also exclaimed, “Don’t leh yuh gun snap though, ‘cause me own ain gon snap.”
