The Ministry of Education says that all schools are expected to have additional furniture to accommodate every child in the new school term which begins on Monday, September 1st.
A release yesterday from the ministry said that to date, more than 90% of schools have already received their supply of furniture. Some schools in Regions 4 and 8 are expected to have all their furniture by the end of September. In the meantime, the release said that contractors will continue to deliver furniture during this current week.
The release stated that the government allocated approximately $300M to the construction and provision of furniture so that every child can be comfortably seated in the classroom.
Ahead of the close of school in July 2014, the release said that Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand held a meeting to discuss the importance of contractors meeting their contractual obligations and delivering furniture of an acceptable quality on time.
