The burnt GPL electricity pole (at left) in ‘C’ Field, Sophia Precarious: A GPL pole has been hanging precariously on what remains after a fire one month ago. Residents said that the incident occurred on July 24th and the Guyana Fire Service had to be called in to douse the flames which endangered the homes of the residents whose houses are directly connected to the pole. GPL has acknowledged the incident as evidenced by a replacement pole that was implanted about two weeks ago, according to residents, but this new pole has not since been used to host the wires atop the burnt pole. Residents fear that the post could collapse at any time and disrupt the connecting lines on the other poles or cause a fire. Residents are requesting that GPL rectify the problem immediately.
