Dear Editor,
I returned home on Sunday night, 24th August, arriving at CJ Intl at around 9.45pm on CAL flight 483. Whilst waiting in the Immigration line I noticed a Chinese male lurking behind the Immigration desks. After a while a senior immigration officer saw him and enquired from him as to who he was and what he was doing there.
The Chinese male then moved back to the Customs area. His interaction with that immigration officer and his furtive movements suggested that he was not a diplomat. Upon reaching the immigration desk I enquired about this gentleman and the officer told me that even when a complaint is made about incidents where unauthorized foreigners enter the Immigration area without clearance, they are simply told “that’s okay.” End of story.
Exiting the baggage area after clearing Customs formalities I saw a huge Lexus / Infinity 4×4 SUV vehicle parked at the airport terminal with another Chinese male.
It is obvious that some foreigners have considerable influence – allowed in restricted and highly secure areas (Immigration). Their access within the international airport perhaps reflects their connections at the highest level of government and helps to explain their influence in our forests and our state regulatory agencies.
Yours faithfully,
Howard Bulkan
