The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) for the first time has honoured both parents and students at its 13th Annual Bursary Awards for outstanding performances at the National Grade Six Assessment Examination.
According to a GRA press release yesterday, the 13th Annual Bursary Awards Ceremony was held on August 22, 2014 at the GRA headquarters for 20 of the top performers at the NGSA Examinations and for the first time both the students and parents received certificates and tokens.
The top awardee among this year’s recipients was Samuel Haynes with a mark of 519 for which he gained a place at the country’s top secondary school Queen’s College and was charged with the responsibility of giving the vote of thanks on behalf of the recipients. The release further stated that Haynes in his vote of thanks, expressed gratitude on behalf of himself and all the recipients for the special honour bestowed upon them.
During the ceremony, the release stated, Maurice Abraham, Senior Manager of the Human Resources Management Division encouraged the students to work hard, dream big, prepare for new challenges, build and maintain new and long lasting friendships as they embark on a new chapter in academia. According to the release, other GRA officials present were Archana Joshi, Divisional Head and Stanley Philips, Manager of the Training Unit both of whom also offered encouragement to the awardees.
Stanley mentioned that GRA had been giving continuous recognition to more than 300 children throughout their secondary education lives.
