A miner was yesterday released on $100,000 bail after denying that he stole a quantity of raw gold from his employer.
It is alleged that between August 20 and August 21, at Aremu Mountain, Cuyuni River, Essequibo, Garfield France, 22, is alleged to have stolen 11.6 pennyweights of raw gold, valued $121,800, which was the property of Bernard Singh.
France, who resides at 118 Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, denied the charge when it was read to him.
Prosecutor Michael Grant told city magistrate Judy Latchman that France was employed with Singh and that between the periods mentioned he was alleged to have stolen the gold.
France’s attorney made an application for his client to be granted reasonable bail, to which the prosecution had no objections.
Bail was granted and France was given September 8 for his next court date, when the case will be called at Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
