The Region Four Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) recently held a leadership and communication workshop for selected members from 18 NDCs involved in the Solid Waste Management Community Participation and Public Awareness Programme.
In a press release, Guyenterprise said it is implementing the programme on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank. The four-day workshop was facilitated by Lorna McPherson, who introduced participants to specific leadership (and management) concepts and tools that would optimise job performances.
Communication expert Dr Rovin Deodat trained participants on the basics of effective communication, including recognising communication problems and barriers, both within and without the organisation, and techniques to resolve such problems and barriers. Participants also learnt how to use social media platforms such as Facebook to achieve these objectives.
According to the press release, Guyenterprise, with input from these two experts, developed the training workshop to address the need to strengthen leadership, management and communication skills that were identified when the agency conduced a needs assessment of the Region Four NDC personnel.
The ministry anticipates that participants would use their newly acquired skills and knowledge to enhance operations at their various NDCs.
