Alpha United’s mathematical hopes of qualifying for the second round of the CONCACAF Champions League was abruptly ended as they were blown away 6-0 by Honduran outfit Olimpia FC on Thursday at the Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino in Honduras.
Leading the shooting gallery for the home side with a hat-trick and double on either side of halftime were Fredixon Elvir and Anthony Lozano respectively. The former found the back of the net in the 29th, 54th, 73rd minutes while the latter scored in the 19th and 61st minutes.
Netting a solo strike in the easy win was Oliver Morzan in the 24th minute. Lozano would begin the assault under fortuitous circumstances compliments of a horrible of goalkeeping error by custodian Dwaine Sandy.
Racing into the area following a flat right-footed, 23-yard effort, Lozano would conveniently have the ball fumbled into his path, only to easily finish down the centre of the net to spark wild celebrations.
If the opener is to be described as opportune, the second goal was nothing short of spectacular as Morzan unleashed a powerful first time, right-footed thunderbolt from 28 yards out that rocketed into the top right hand corner of the net.
The highlight reel of goals would continue for the Hondurans as Elvir netted, curling his right footed effort into the top right hand corner of the goal from just outside the left side of the penalty area.
Olimpia’s lead would continue to grow as Elvir completed his double with a simple finish to the back of the net from the centre of the area, after receiving a right sided Carlos Mejia pass following the latter stealing possession of the ball from the Alpha left fullback.
Not to be outdone, Lozano would seal his double, powering his header into the roof of the net, after collecting a perfectly placed right sided Bayron Dionico cross from a freekick just outside the right side of the 18 yard box.
Elvir would then the seal win, netting his hat trick with a finish to the empty net, after the ball fell into his path within the centre of the area, following a challenge by the Alpha defender in attempting to stop a counterattack with the ‘keeper racing off his goal-line.
With the loss, Alpha United are further relegated to the bottom of the group with zero points from three games. Currently their goal difference stands at -10 after having conceded 11 goals and scoring only one goal.
Alpha United will now play for pride when they faceoff with Portland Timbers in their final group fixture on September 23 in the United States of America.
