Vergenoegen All-Stars continued their unbeaten group campaign in the Stag Beer West Side 5-aside football tournament, defeating Woodcrest by a 1-0 score line on Friday at the Vergenoegen Rice Mill Tarmac.
Marvin Marks settled the outcome very early in the hard-fought encounter as he found the back of the net in the second minute. Also registering victories on the evening were Tuschen Up-Top-Youths and Uitvlugt.
Dubbed favourites for the title upon the commencement of the event, the Tuschen unit defeated Showtime by a 1-0 margin. Mercurial forward Devon Millington was the difference between the two outfits as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 17th minute.
Uitvlugt came from behind to defeat DeKindren by a 2-1 score line. Surrendering the early goal compliments of Andre Hector effort in the second minute, Uitvlugt would level proceedings five minutes later as Carlisle Carron netted.
The go ahead winner would then be found in the 19th minute as Jamaal Petty scored. In the final two fixtures, Jetty Gunners and New Road Eagles battled to a 0-0 stalemate while Shattasville Pacesetters and Stewartville Gunners played to a 1-1 draw .
Pacesetters took the early lead as Joel Stephens netted in the very first minute of the fixture. However Marvin Henry would earn a share of the spoils for Stewartville as he netted in the final minute (20th) of the fixture.
The action continues tonight at the same venue with the conclusion of the final group stage matches.
