A labourer was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that he was one of two persons who robbed a man.
The allegation against Jonathan Ishmael is that on August 26, at First Street, Alexander Village, being with another person, he robbed Suresh Ramnarine of a bicycle, a cell phone, a charger, a pair of earpieces, a leather belt and a quantity of cash, which all amounted to $33,200 in value.
Ishmael, of Lot 34 Independence Boulevard, denied the charge when it was read to him.
Additionally, Ishmael was also charged threatening and unlawfully assaulting another man, Yassin Mohamed, on August 26 and August 28, respectively. He pleaded not guilty to these charges also.
When asked the nature of the threat and assault, Prosecutor Michael Grant said the accused had pulled Mohamed out of his vehicle and threatened to chop him.
The prosecution objected to bail being granted, citing the nature, gravity and seriousness of the offences.
After hearing the case, Magistrate Judy Latchman, however, granted $30,000 and $20,000 bail on the charges of threatening language and assault, respectively, but remanded Ishmael to prison on the robbery charge.
His next court hearing was set for September 9 at Court One.
