More than two years on, the `hit’-style murder of then Pest Control Plus boss, Mohammed Baksh remains unsolved.
Baksh, also known as Mohammed Shahabudeen Bacchus, died after he was shot by two men, while he was at a grill with friends.
According to the brother of Baksh, Mohammed Bacchus, two years later, nothing has changed as it relates to the investigation into his brother’s murder. He said that his brother’s widow checked up on the matter with the police and as far as he knows, the police are yet to find the alleged killers.
Baksh was shot several times around 10 pm on Friday, June 15, 2012 at a grill on Thomas Street, Cummingsburg during an attack by two armed men. He succumbed a day later while he was being prepared for emergency surgery at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Stabroek News was told that two gunmen walked up to the table where Baksh, the Director of Pest Control Plus, and his friends were eating and opened fire on him, leaving the others unharmed.
One of Baksh’s friends, who witnessed the attack, related to investigators that after the gunmen entered the restaurant and opened fire on the man, she ran for cover. During the process, she noticed two persons on motorcycles heading in different directions.
Bacchus had told Stabroek News that it was not the first attempt on his brother’s life. On August 7, 2008 Baksh was shot several times and robbed at his Lamaha Street, North Cummingsburg home by three gunmen. Two men were subsequently charged with attempting to murder Baksh. However, Bacchus said, he believes that that case was thrown out after his brother’s death.
Days after his murder, an attempt was made to set fire to a Pest Control bond in Prashad Nagar.
