Amid a 31.3% rise in traffic deaths this year compared to last year, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) yesterday again appealed to road users to be more responsible.
In a statement, the NRSC said that 88 persons have died on the roads this year as of yesterday compared to 67 for the corresponding period last year. The number of fatal accidents during the period has also risen from 64 to 81. Eleven children have died on the roads so far this year compared to eight for the same period last year.
The latest road death on Sunday saw a pedestrian being hit by a 4×4 vehicle at Alness, Corentyne.
A large number of fatalities has been linked to alcohol-fuelled speeding on the roads.
