It has been confirmed that Elizabeth Henry, the Bartica woman struck by lightning on Friday died of heart failure, while her daughter remains hospitalized after also being struck.
When contacted yesterday, relatives told Stabroek News that a medical practitioner had determined that Henry died from heart failure caused by the electric shock. The family had opted to forego a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Henry’s daughter, Aisha, 16, is still a patient at the Bartica Hospital.
In an interview with this newspaper, Aisha explained that the entire ordeal had happened so suddenly that she had no idea what had happened until she subsequently regained consciousness.
She said she was in a lot of pain but was expecting to be released from hospital soon.
Henry, 52, of 4 Miles, Bartica, succumbed at the Bartica Hospital, while receiving treatment.
According to her son, Isaac Charles, he and his sister Aisha and their mother were sitting under their house during torrential rain at approximately 2 pm on Friday, when he saw lightning strike a utility wire before bouncing off and hitting the two females.
