A carpenter will be spending the next 12 months in prison after stealing a can of insecticide from a city supermarket.
“I was drinking yesterday [Monday] afternoon and wasn’t thinking quite clear,” 38-year-old Jewanram Narine told Magistrate Judy Latchman when asked why he stole the item.
Narine admitted that on September 1, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, he stole an Off! Deep Woods spray, valued $1,595, from the Survival Supermarket.
The prosecution’s facts stated that on the day in question, at about 7pm, Narine went into the supermarket and was seen by the security guard picking up the spray. He was subsequently approached by the guard on the pavement outside the supermarket and a search of his person unearthed the spray in his pants pocket.
Narine was subsequently arrested and charged.
After hearing the case, the magistrate informed Narine that he would be spending the next 12 months in prison.
