An autopsy yesterday confirmed that Mahaica farmer Balkissoon bled to death as a result of a chop wound to his neck.
According to relatives, the post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday on the body of the 52-year-old farmer, who had a fatal confrontation with another man on Tuesday morning.
Balkissoon’s son, Robby Balkissoon, told Stabroek News that his father had an argument with the man, identified as ‘Tailor man,’ who had hurled insults about the dead farmer’s wife.
Later in the day, Robby said, the man walked up to Balkissoon and “he just tell me father he gon kill he” before firing a chop to the left side of the man’s neck.
The grieving son said that he was even threatened with the same fate by the accused, who then made good his escape.
Balkissoon died in the arms of his son. He will be cremated on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who was held by police, remains in custody.
