TEXAS, United States, CMC-Jamaican Olympian Michael Frater is to be honoured by his alma mater, the Texas Christian University, officials have announced.
Frater will be inducted into the University’s lettermen’s Hall of Fame during an official ceremony scheduled for next Thursday.
The Jamaican sprinter has had a successful track career earning countless awards, including the 2002 Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and the All American Athlete which he won five times.
Nowt the third vice-president of the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association (JAAA), Frater describes his recent achievement as “a personal milestone which carries with it a greater obligation to motivate and inspire”.
He is a World Championships 100m silver medallist and two-time gold medallist on Jamaica’s 4x100m record-breaking teams at the Beijing (2008) and London (2012) Olympic Games.
“I am grateful to my university alma mater for this honour which only reminds me of the importance of serving and the value of giving of oneself and one’s talent.” said Frater, who ranks among few elite world athletes to be inducted by a prestigious university while still competing.
Frater distinguished himself at the university majoring in political science with a minor in history and was named, in 2003, an Academic All American.
