The Guyana Nurses Association (GNA) held its Annual Awards Ceremony on Saturday at its headquarters, 178 Charlotte & Alexander streets, Lacytown and also re-dedicated the building after conducting a re-painting exercise.
Gail Teixeira, Presidential Advisor on Governance delivered the feature address to more than seventy people who were gathered in the GNA Hall.
A release from the association said that she stressed that primary health care and health promotion should be a great focus for the GNA. She also called for nurses to conduct research to enhance patient care.
The Gloria Noel Award for Quality Nursing Care went to Trecia Marc-Hubbard. The Gail Teixeira Award for the most outstanding midwife practising at a public hospital went to Jennifer Melville-Nelson while the Gillian Butts-Garnett Award for the most outstanding active member of the GNA went to Cedina Forde. For maintaining high standards in nursing care and promoting the activities of the GNA, Michelle Griffith-Osborne, Wanetta Scipio, Surojonie Ramchand and Michelle Cornelius were awarded
Seven children of members of the Association received bursary awards.
The Guyana Nurses Association expressed gratitude to Food for the Poor, Gafoors, Courts, Giftland Officemax and Nigel’s Supermarket for their donations of cash and paint towards repainting the GNA building.
