Dear Editor,
We read in another national publication with interest and dismay that the “Home Affairs Ministry wishes to report that a total of 255 animals were impounded during the month of August in pounds in A, B, C and D Police Divisions.”
Could the learned Minister let us know how many of those animals were from a specific herd that is reared in the middle of Success village on the East Coast of Demerara. There is a herd of cows, pigs, sheep, horses and goats that are owned by a specific resident there that roam daily untethered and shepherd-less and are causing havoc to ratepayers’ properties by destroying their fences, among other things, as they forage around for their daily victuals. They are even a threat to children on their way to school.
Could the kindly learned Minister state why nothing has been done to curtail or impound that specific herd of cows, pigs and horses so they do not destroy ratepayers’ property? Many householders are peeved that no punitive preventive measures have been taken to curb these roaming, marauding animals in Success.
It is all talk and talk and cheap politics from our learned Minister of Home Affairs. Let him come out from his ivory tower and get the facts independently.
