Dear Editor,
Speed humps are useful in situations where it is intended that road users must slow down in order to ensure caution at intersections or where there may be schools or other places considered necessary for such installations.
Quite recently while traversing Delhi Street in Prashad Nagar I was unpleasantly surprised to be confronted by 14 such humps, which in my opinion is an overdose, as I fail to see the potential hazards that may exist along this 3,000-plus feet of carriageway. As a matter of fact, in the middle section of that street there are about 8 humps along a 1200 foot span of roadway.
This to my mind is a prime example of a waste of resources which could have been applied to many of the known accident prone intersections (such as North Road and New Garden Street and Church Street and New Garden Street) as well as to repair the many potholes on the streets of our city.
I am therefore appealing to the relevant authorities to exercise some prudence and commonsense when taxpayers’ monies are involved in the expenditure for projects such as the one outlined above.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Edwards
