A fiery spell of fast bowling by Darshan La Rose guided Police to a comprehensive victory over Everest yesterday as action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafood’s second division two-day competition continued over the weekend. Playing at the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, La Rose claimed 5-31 from 7.5 overs to restrict Everest to 75-9 innings closed in their second innings.
The fast bowler made life tough for the Everest batsmen as he bowled with pace and accuracy throughout. He received support from all-rounder Troy Benn who collected 3-30 from eight overs while the only other bowler to be used by Police during Everest’s second turn at the crease, Kelvin Leitch, collected the other wicket.
Earlier, after resuming the day at 136-6 in their first innings, Everest reached 152-9 innings closed in 36 overs. Former national youth player Troy Gonsalves was unavailable for the day’s play after falling ill. Bowling for Police Troy Benn and Vishal Jaigobin were the chief wicket takers with three wickets apiece while off spinner Leitch finished with 2-18 from 10 overs.
In their second turn at the crease, Police were bowled out for 144 in 29.4 overs with Sherwyn McPherson top scoring with 65. Dwayne McPherson supported with 20. Shahid Mohamed and Chris Surat bowled well for Everest capturing three wickets each.
Set a target of 220 in a little more than a session, Everest only managed to survive 16.5 overs as they were routed for 75 runs. Surat was the only batsman that reached 20. He made 21 as Police completed an easy victory by 145 runs and kept their chances of reaching the semifinals open.
Everest’s Javed Rasheed became the first bowler in the tournament to reach 50 wickets when he took his only wicket in Police’s second innings.

Everest first innings score 152 all out 36 overs (Kevin Ramdeen 55 and Dwayne Perreira 51 while Benn and Jaigobin picked up three wickets each). Everest second innings 75 all out in 16.5 overs (La Rose 5-31 from 7.5 overs).
