Despite being the last team to qualify, the No. 69 Red Rose Cricket Club beat the No. 70 Cricket Club by 11-runs on Sunday to reach the semi-finals of the Guytrac 20/20 Knockout Cricket Competition staged across the Upper Corentyne.
The match was reduced to 17 overs per side due to a late start. No. 69 Red Rose batted first and scored 141 for 4 off 17 overs, led by Tariq Chaitram 96 (5×4 & 4×6). Bowling for No. 70 CC, Naeem Yacoob took 1 for 25 off 4 overs supported by Chris Bollers 1 for 25 off 3 overs.
In reply, No. 70 club were bowled out for 130 off 16.3 overs. Latchman Roopchand offered resistance with a top score of 64. Bowling for No. 69 Red Rose O. Seeram took 3 for 41 off 4 overs, C Nourang 2 for 22 off 4 overs and I. Khan 2 for 17 off 3 overs.
The semi-finals are expected to be exciting with all four teams showing good form so far. The CWC sports complex ground small compared to other grounds in the Upper Corentyne so it is expected that all the games will be high scoring affairs.
In the first semi-final, No. 48 Challengers will take on No. 69 Red Rose starting at 10am while in the second semi-final the No. 64 Fighting Marines will come up against Springlands at 2pm. Skeldon CC has already advanced to an eliminator match which will be played against one of the semi-finals winners.
The Crabwood Sports Club is expected to use this match as a fundraising event for the Club.
