‘Punches in bunches’ on menu tonight at CASH

The five-month wait for boxing starved fans is finally over.

Get ready to be served a scheduled 28 rounds of fistic fury tonight when the ‘Gentleman’s Sport’ returns to the ornate splendor of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as the GBBC presents the ‘Battle of the Contenders’ card.

The main course of the five-fight event features recently crowned Wray and Nephew Contender Series winner, Jamaican, Sakima Mullings and a combatant in the Series, Derrick ‘Lights Out’ Richmond of Guyana.

The Mullings/Richmond light middleweight bout is planned for eight rounds and will keep fight fans on the edge of their seats throughout the affair if it manages to go to the distance. Mullings (16(11)-1-0) from Stony Hill, Jamaica is the more polished and skillful fighter but the New Amsterdam resident, Richmond (3(3)-1-1) is a known knockout artist with bone breaking power. Just ask CABOFE middleweight champion Edmond DeClou whose career has been shelved after sustaining a broken jaw at the hands of ‘Lights Out’ last October.

Mullings weighed in at 148 last night at the while Richmond tipped the scales at 155 given him a seven-pound advantage.

Nevertheless, Mullings was unperturbed and if the verbal jabs thrown following the weigh in at Regency Hotel then tonight’s fight promises to be a punch filled contest.
