A row between two Mazaruni Prison inmates yesterday ended with one being stabbed to death.
The dead inmate has been identified as 21-year-old Teon Smith who was serving a five-year prison term for a series of armed robberies.
His alleged killer is currently being held at the Bartica Police Station where investigators are probing the incident. He, too, is serving a five-year prison term, which began last May, at the Mazaruni Prison.
Stabroek News understands that nearing the end of a recreation break yesterday, the men had an argument and Smith was stabbed. It is unclear where his alleged killer got the weapon from.
A senior police official told Stabroek News that the details and circumstances surrounding the killing have not yet been established as both prison and police officials are currently carrying out investigations.
