Though there have been some leads following the release of an image of the shooter involved in the Delicious Chinese Restaurant killing, the police are yet to apprehend a viable suspect.
Crime Chief Leslie James told Stabroek News that the police have been receiving some responses in relation to the released photo of the shooter. Responses, he added, are still coming in and each is being followed up.
However, these leads have not led to anything concrete and James said that the police do not want to “alert anyone to anything.”
The image was released last week, two weeks after Debra Blackman, 42, was shot and killed. Blackman, a waitress, had just finished serving the man. The bullet entered her body through her neck and exited through her shoulder. On August 23, the gunman walked into the restaurant which is located between Haley and Hardina streets and shot Blackman. Seconds after the shooting the man was seen walking out of the restaurant and he subsequently jumped onto a CG motorcycle which sped off.
The video footage captured the face of the shooter; part of the footage seen by this newspaper showed a young man, dressed in a grey t-shirt, dark-coloured pants and a red cap, standing by the counter.
The image was released to the public by the Guyana Police Force and they are asking anyone with information that may lead to the shooter’s identification and location to contact the police on 225-6411, 225-2227, 227-1149, 226-7065, 225-8196, 911, or the nearest police station. According to the police, any information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
