A taxi driver was remanded to prison yesterday on a charge that he was one of the two men who invaded a woman’s home and robbed her at gun-point.
Jessie Knights, 29, of 311 Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was accused of robbing Desiree Fredericks at her home at Robb Street, Georgetown, on September 12.
According to the prosecution, Knights along with an unknown accomplice entered Fredericks’ home through an open door, then placed a gun to her face and demanded money and jewellery. Fredericks then told the accused that all she had was $10,000 dollars. After the ordeal, Fredericks summoned the police and she then told the ranks that she recognised Knights. The accused was subsequently found in a taxi.
Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail and he noted that a firearm was used in committing the crime. As a result, Knights was remanded to prison until October 30.
