Transparency Institute Guyana Inc (TIGI) has announced that its president Dr Anand Goolsarran has tendered his resignation due to an overseas commitment, and George Fraser will serve in the role until 2015.
Dr Goolsarran was elected president of TIGI in 2013, having previously served as vice president. He tendered his resignation with effect from September 1 due to an overseas commitment that he had previously suggested might necessitate this step, TIGI said in a press release.
In the interim, Fraser will take on the role of acting president until TIGI holds its next AGM in 2015. After serving as a career diplomat, businessman and private investor in the Asia-Pacific Region, Fraser returned to Guyana in 2012. He is an experienced Sinologist with more than three decades of exposure to China’s global profile in government and business.
Fraser is enthusiastic about TIGI’s work as part of a global network that challenges corruption from international and local sources, the group said. His first-hand experience of Hong Kong’s success in fighting corruption and China’s recently intensified efforts to halt this scourge has resulted in strong conviction that similar successes can be achieved in Guyana.
TIGI also welcomed the return of Nadia Sagar, TIGI’s first president, who has rejoined the board of directors which currently consists of Calvin Bernard, Esther McIntosh, Dhanmattie Sohai, Gino Persaud, Compton Meerabux and Arif Bulkan.
