Months after he was busted with 33 cocaine-filled pellets in his stomach, popular Linden bodybuilder Colin ‘Mr Clean’ Chesney was on Wednesday sentenced to time served in a Brooklyn Federal Court, according to the New York Daily News.
Chesney was held on May 24 at the John F Kennedy International Airport after he acted suspiciously, which led officials to perform an x-ray on his body; it revealed foreign objects.
He has been incarcerated for four months since he was arrested and was released by Judge Margo Brodie on Wednesday, the report said. He had faced a maximum of six months in prison and the judge did not impose a fine.
“I’ve worked hard at becoming the best bodybuilder and weightlifter my whole life,” Chesney, 39, wrote in a letter to the judge. “I finally reached a place to be recognised in my profession and I’ve watched it all torn down by the results of this horrific action on my part.”
According to the report, Chesney had agreed to carry the drugs in his stomach to raise money for medical treatment for his ailing mother, according to court papers.
“Mr Chesney has been personally affected by this more than any client I’ve had in long time,” his lawyer Peter Kirchheimer said in court. “He calls me every day from jail asking about his case. It’s inconceivable he would do anything like this again.”
