Scotiabank, through its Bright Future Programme, recently partnered with the Guyana Book Foundation to donate over 150 books to two East Coast Demerara schools in observance of Education Month.
The books were presented to the Beterverwagting/Quamina and Lusignan Primary schools at a simple ceremony hosted at the bank’s Robb Street branch in support of the Book Foundation’s book donation drive that targeted 65 nursery, primary and secondary schools in Region Four.
The book donation drive is one of the Book Foundation’s ongoing projects, in keeping with its goal to improve children’s literacy countrywide, Scotiabank said in a press release. The Foundation aims to ensure that children continue to have access to high quality, interesting books with engaging stories that will encourage them to read outside of their required texts, while adding to their schools’ library collection.
In 2013, the Foundation requested Scotiabank’s sponsorship of book distribution to nursery schools in Region Eight during Education Month and Amerindian Month.
