Forest Products Develop-ment and Marketing Coun-cil Guyana launched its first forestry related magazine at its incentive investment seminar held earlier this month at the Guyana Forestry Commission’s office in Kingstown.
The publication, titled Guyana Timber and Trade Investment Magazine is one of a series of recommendations in a summary report on ‘Marketing Strategy for Guyana’s wood Products Industry’ prepared by international consultant Dr Kwame Asumadu a press release said.
“This magazine…examines the market and investment opportunities for potential buyers and investors in the [forestry] industry,” the press release said. It “encourages investment that supports innovation and efficiency in the sector as it relates to adding value to timber with a particular emphasis on the Lesser Used Species whilst introducing new opportunities and markets.”
According to the press release, the magazine covers a range of topics such as analysing the local timber industry; it provides an overview of the forestry sector; sustainable forestry management as well as the promotion of Guyana’s Lesser Used Species as an alternative solution for processing. The journal also focuses on the establishment of downstream processing, particularly of the Lesser Used Species, and to widen access to niche markets internationally. A reference guide is also included to assist and inform readers of species and their matching application.
Five thousand copies of the magazine have been printed; the first of which was given to Natural Resources Minister Robert Persaud. The magazines will be distributed to both local and international stakeholders. The Council extends gratitude to its advertisers, Global Print-ing and Graphics Inc and all the other entities that made the publication possible.
