Vindra Seeram was yesterday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of his wife Shelly Persaud, who was found with her head submerged in a bucket of water.
Seeram was committed at the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry into the murder charge against him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry who presided over the matter, informed Seeram that based on the whole of the evidence presented, a prima facie case had been made out against him.
After the prosecution closed its case, defence attorney Kevon Bess was asked by the court whether he would make no-case submissions but he indicated that he would not.
Meanwhile, when asked if he would call any witnesses, the accused after consulting with his lawyer told the court that he would reserve his witnesses for the High Court and elected to remain silent.
Seeram has not been required to enter a plea to the charge which states that between June 9 and June 10, this year, he murdered Persaud at their Lot 34 Friendship, East Bank Demerara home, which they shared with their three young daughters.
The deceased’s father, Orin Morris, said that Persaud was found with her head inside a five gallon bucket of water. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be drowning and manual strangulation.
