A 21-year-old Onderneeming Sand Pit man was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Sunil Scarce when he appeared at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court. Leon Price, who is a miner, was charged with robbery with violence.
According to the police facts, on August 15 at around 8.30 pm 21-year-old Dellon Benjamin was walking home from a shop at Onderneeming when Price walked up to him, pushed his hand in Benjamin’s trunks pocket and pulled out $21,000. Benjamin claimed that Price threw him on the ground and dealt him several cuffs about his body. Price also broke a glass bottle and stabbed him about his face, hands and abdomen.
Price then ran away and Benjamin was assisted by his sister who took him to the Suddie Public Hospital where he is still a patient.
Price was not required to plead to the charge and he was not represented in court.
Bail was refused by the Magistrate and Price was remanded into the custody of the state until October 24 when the matter is expected to be called again.
