Track and Field athletes will show their mettle at the annual Senior National Championships on Sunday with international exposure at stake.
According to president of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG), Aubrey Hutson, the championships which will be staged at the Eve Leary Ground “will be used as an evaluation for selection to the South American Under-23 Championships in Uruguay next month.”
Yesterday, Hutson expounded that “based on performances from this weekend, we [the AAG] will determine if we will field a team and who those persons will be.”
The Uruguay championships are slated for October 3-5 in Montevideo.
Elton Bollers, Devon Barrington and Kevin Bayley are some of the national athletes that the selectors will be paying keen attention to on Sunday.
Junior star athletes, Jason Yaw, Jevina Sampson and Avon Samuels will also have a chance to vie for selection.
“The under-23 Championships caters for athletes 16 and above so some of our younger athletes can be considered for selection,” Hutson highlighted.
Athletes are expected to be in the blocks from 10:00hrs. On your marks! (Emmerson Campbell)
