The top three cyclists along with Guyana’s Commonwealth Games representatives, Alanzo Greaves, Marlon Williams and Raynauth Jeffrey broke away from the rest of the starters on the upward journey at Little Diamond.
At Kuru Kururu on the way back, DeNobrega changed gears but he was followed by Anthony and Eastman.
With Greaves, Williams and Jeffrey playing the cat and mouse game, the three cyclist up front rode as a team to stretch their lead with every powerful turn of their pedals.
As they neared the finish line however, team work was thrown out
Eastman first rose from his saddle, Anthony followed leaving a cramping DeNobrega behind.
Despite Eastman’s superior sprinting ability, Anthony had just enough left in the tank to edge out his break away mate. (Emmerson Campbell)
