Inspired by five wicket hauls from Gilford Moore and Kenswel DeJonge, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) completed an eight-wicket victory over Transport Sports Club (TSC) in the lone Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two day match that was played over the weekend at Camp Ayangana.
Moore was dangerous with his pace as he collected 5-21 during TSC’s first innings total of 75 all out while DeJonge finished things off in the visitor’s second innings with figures of 5-43.
Playing at home after two matches on the road, GDF opted to bat first, scoring 210 all out in 76.1 overs. Skipper Marcus Watkins (34), Culvis Sam (34), Randy Lindore (33) and Paul Oneil (33) all got starts but failed to capitalize.
Bowling for TSC off spinner Azeem Azeez captured 4-31 while the experienced Kevin Ross took 2-47 from 30 overs. In reply the visitors were restricted to 75 all out in 18.1 overs after Moore’s effective spell combined with Orlando Tanner’s 3-20.
The military side the enforced the follow, restricting TSC to 164 all out in 51.3 overs. Ryan Hemraj top scored with 46 while Azeez posted 31 to make the hosts bat again. DeJonge’s destructive spell was aided by Paul’s two wickets.
With a target of 29 to gain an outright victory, the hosts knocked off the runs with Dameon Ross and Watkins unbeaten on 15 and 8 respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Noble House Seafoods second-division, two-day competition, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) thrashed Third Class by an innings and 120 runs at the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground.
After being inserted, GCC scored 244 all out with national U-19 player Renaldo Ali-Mohamed and Samuel Mckenzie being the principal scorers with 81 and 63 respectively. Bowling for Third Class Keon Bailey snared 8-26 with his aggressive unorthodox medium pace bowling.
However, GCC’s bowling was too good for Third Class to handle as they fell under a hundred in each of their innings. In their first innings they were rattled for 56 as former national youth pacer Denard Bailey claimed three wickets while Devon Lord, Ali-Mohamed and Cleyon Critchlow picked up two wickets each.
In the second innings Denard Bailey (4) and Critchlow (4) combined for eight wickets as Third Class was routed for 68.
It was the third consecutive weekend of GCA’s cricket that none of the batsmen reached three figures.
