Marian Academy retained their U-13 title while Christ Church were crowned the Global Technology Inter-Schools champions when the Hikers Hockey Club fourth annual junior indoor tourney continued on Saturday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The Carifesta Avenue unit defeated Old Fort in the final compliments of a Makeda Harding penalty strike conversion following a nil-all score line at the end of normal time. Christ Church Secondary on the other hand, dethroned defending champs St. Stanislaus 1-0 in the final through a Stephon Sprosta strike.
Clinching the third spot in the U-13 category was GCC who defeated Saints 2-0. Earning the third place position in the Global Technology Inter-Schools category was Marian Academy as they hammered North Ruimveldt Multilateral 4-0.
In the semi-final round of the U-13 category, Group-X winners Marian Academy defeated Group-Y runners-up Saints by a 5-0 score line while Group-Y holders Old Fort edged Group-X runners-up GCC by a 2-1 margin. Fifth position in the division went to hosts Hikers who defeated newcomers Kingston Hockey Club 1-0.
In the semi-final stage of the Global Technology Inter-School division, eventual champs Christ Church Secondary cruised into the final by defeating North Ruimveldt Secondary 2-0. The other semi-final matchup saw St. Stanislaus College brushing aside Marian Academy by a 3-0 score line.
The schools that participated in the category were St. Stanislaus College, Christ Church, Marian Academy, North Ruimveldt Multilateral, Queens College and St. John’s College.
In addition to the action, several junior players under the supervision of FIH umpire Devin Hooper, were trained as they were allowed to officiate the matches.
