After he pleaded not guilty to the offence of unlawful wounding, a 35-year-old miner was yesterday granted bail when he appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court.
Andrew Griffith of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast was charged with unlawfully wounding his neighbour Orin Boston. According to the police, on September 18 at around 6.30 pm, Boston left his home to go to a shop in Westbury. While he was driving, Griffith who was the driver of another vehicle overtook him and turned in front of his car. As a result, Boston had to pull in the corner to avoid a collision. He then came out of his vehicle and spoke to Griffith.
Police said Griffith armed himself with a cutlass and fired a chop at Boston, but he missed and in turn Boston held on to Griffith to take the cutlass away. They scuffled and Boston sustained injuries to his left hand. A
report was made to the police and Griffith was later arrested. This publication was told that the two had previous grievances.
Griffith pleaded not guilty to the charge and there was no objection to bail by Prosecutor Haimwant Ramsewak.
Griffith who was not represented was granted $60,000 bail and he was ordered to return to court on September 29 when the matter is expected to be called again.
