A 16-year-old schoolboy is now hospitalised after he was stabbed and battered during an attack on Sunday night.
Warren Semple of Den Amstel Public Road, West Coast Demerara, is now an admitted patient of the West Demerara Regional Hospital after he received nine stab wounds along with several lashes about his body.
The attack on the Uitvlugt Secondary School student was allegedly carried out by an older youth, identified as “Jamal,” also known as ‘Daggering.’ No arrests have been made since the attack but police are continuing to investigate, a senior official told Stabroek News.
Stephon Greene, a relative of Semple who said he was with him when the attack occurred, related to this newspaper that sometime around 6 pm
on Sunday they were at Bus Shed Street, Uitvlugt, when they were approached by Jamal and another individual, identified only as “Delon.”
He said Delon asked Semple to buy a bottle of “Banko,” which the teen refused to do. As a result, Jamal took out a concealed weapon, ran up to Semple, braced him up to a fence and started to stab him repeatedly. Semple then fell to the ground.
“Somebody tell me, ‘Look wha ‘Daggering’ doing to Warren.’ And I run fuh pick he [Warren] up and ‘Daggering’ lash me in meh head and all I see is he still beating Warren,” Greene said.
Semple was subsequently rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, from where he was later transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
Greene also told this newspaper that Semple and his alleged assailant had a previous misunderstanding, which had resulted in Semple being slapped.
