The ‘Sport of Kings’ returns to the Corentyne on Sunday with a grand eight-race meet at the Alness Turf Club.
In excess $5M in cash and stakes will be up for grabs and with so much on offer, an action packed day of racing is anticipated.
Sunday’s feature event will be for horses classified ‘A’ and lower with the cavalry set to cover a distance of 1600m. The winning stable is set to take home an appetizing $1M and a trophy.
The other events will cater for horses classified F and Lower, G3 and Lower, I and Lower, J1 and Lower, the J3 Open, the K and Lower and the L and Lower.
Guyana’s premier thoroughbred, the crowd pulling,1000-lb grey gelding Score’s Even is one of the 60 horses set to be in the paddock on Sunday.
BridleStone Corner who did an eye catching five-furlong gallop yesterday is also one to watch in the feature event.
Church House, California Strike, Run Na Na Run, Settle in Seattle, It’s My Turn, Speed Vision, Famous Pride, Another Jet and Dark and Lovely are other big names that will have jockeys on their perch.
According to one of the organizers of the race meet, Compton Sancho, the Alness track “is in immaculate condition and we expect an exciting day of racing.”
Sponsors so far include: Banks DIH Limited, Nand Persaud and Company, Asrafali Supermarket, R. Matadial, Choke Gas Station, Kanhai’s Electrical Agency, Shariff Racing Stable, Simply Royal Stables, R. Richmond and family and others. The top individual performers including jockey, stable owners and trainers will be presented with trophies.
Action starts at 13:00hrs and admission is $1000.
