The attack on the house at Parfaite Harmonie on Monday, which left 27-year-old Jason Munroe dead and the house reduced to ashes was apparently executed by two intruders, the home owner said yesterday and relatives of the dead man are awaiting the conclusion of investigations being done by the police and hoping that justice will be served.
One suspect is currently in police custody.
Munroe’s charred body was removed from the burnt out property at 201 Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara yesterday, while his girlfriend Zullina Callender, 20; her three-year-old daughter Princess Babb and her 15-year-old sister Shontel Callender were admitted as patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Zullina Callender, who sustained wounds to her head and face as well as burns to her hands and feet, has since been discharged.
Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday, Callender’s mother Amanda Daniels said that while she was not at home when the incident occurred,
her daughter had told her that two intruders had entered the home.
Contacted yesterday, Divisional Commander Ian Amsterdam said the matter is still under investigation. When asked if he was aware that it was alleged that two men had entered the house, he said that the suspect had not said so.
Daniels said that her younger daughter and her granddaughter were still hospitalised and that her daughter, who was badly burned was expected to undergo an operation sometime soon.
The family was unable to save anything from the burning building and is in desperate need. Members of the public who are willing to make any contribution towards the victims of the fire can make contact with Daniels on telephone number 681-7613.
Meanwhile, Munroe’s sister Wendella Austin, who also spoke with Stabroek News was still shocked at her brother’ demise. She said her brother had been involved with Zullina after being introduced to her by his cousin a few months ago.
This newspaper understands that Munroe, his girlfriend, her daughter and sister were asleep in the house when the two intruders broke in and allegedly assaulted them.
Munroe was knocked unconscious and the house was then set on fire.
Munroe’s distraught mother Cheryl Morris, who fell unconscious after seeing her son’s burnt up body, is devastated. “Ah can’t ketch meh self right now. Ah neva expect it,’’ she cried.
She noted that her son was a very peaceful person and didn’t deserve to die like that.
It was about 01:00 hrs on Monday that neighbours heard what sounded like fighting followed by screams coming from the 201 Parfaite Harmonie house. Soon afterwards they saw the house engulfed in flames and persons were seen running from the building.
