Joseph Nurse, the miner who succumbed after being severely beaten at an Issano mining camp during a gunpoint hold-up, died of blunt trauma to the head, a post-mortem examination has revealed.
Nurse, 35, of Lot 24 Belmonte, Mahaica, was one of three miners held at gunpoint, beaten and robbed at their 14 Miles mining camp last Thursday.
Relatives told Stabroek News that the autopsy found that Nurse died as a result of blunt trauma to his head. His skull was fractured and his brain was ruptured, a sister said.
Nurse and two other workers were beaten and robbed of gold and money, then tied up, before their attackers escaped. Nurse died while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday.
No arrest has been made. However, the police are continuing investigations into the matter.
Nurse will be laid to rest on Sunday.
