Well-known Argentine guitarist Néstor Basurto is due to visit Guyana, where he will conduct workshops and seminars for local music students.
Culture Minister Frank Anthony and Argentine Ambassador to Guyana Luis Alberto Martino made the announcement on Thursday, according to a Ministry release.
Basurto will be Guyana from the September 29th to October 8th.
Ambassador Martino noted that Basurto prefers teaching and as a result workshops and seminars will be held at the National
School of Music and the University of Guyana. Those involved in the workshops will also participate in a special performance at the National School of Music.
Basurto is a well-known guitarists and arranger, with over 20 folksongs and tango musical albums.
Minister Anthony said he recalled the visit by Argentinian guitarists Jorge Palacious and Jorge Marti, the Escordando guitar duo, in May and the public being enthralled by the duo’s performance. He anticipated a similar result for Basurto.
Ambassador Martino was commended by Minister Anthony for his effort in promoting Argentine culture in Guyana.
These visits by Argentine Musicians helps Guyana to understand more about its South American neighbour, he said.
Basurto will be performing a number of concerts for school children at the National Culture Centre, Lichas Hall in Region 10, New Amsterdam Secondary and West Demerara Secondary.
According to the Ministry, Basurto Began his career at age eight as a singer in a neighbourhood club and was accompanied by his father and uncles. Basurto evolved into a renowned artist who collaborated with a number of other Artists. He was also awarded several times for his work.
Persons interested in participating in the workshop are asked to register with the National School of Music on Brickdam.
