Despite the absence of some big names and the Group four drivers, yesterday’s GMR&SC’s ‘Race of Champions’ meet had some scintillating performances.
A few speed demons that stood out at the South Dakota Circuit included: Rameez Mohamed, Shairaz Roshandin, Chet Singh, Sean Seejatan, Assad Hassan and Matthew Vieira.
Here are a few highlights:
Group 3
Ace driver, Mohamed had a great day in the driver’s seat of his Toyota Starlet. He steered his machine to three exciting victories in the featured races.
Group 2
Singh, Roshandin and Seejatan all had a wave of the checkered flag as they each recorded victories in the co-feature.
Roshandin could have won the final race of the class after leading for much of the event but mechanical problems forced him to pull the brakes.
Group 1
Hassan took pole position in two of the three races while Vickey Persaud waved the flag in the other.
Super Stock
Matthew, the son of Mark Vieira was born with daredevil blood and proved it yesterday.
With a heart the size of a pumpkin and motor oil running in his veins the 16-year old powered his Yamaha R6 to two adrenaline rushing victories in the category.
The annual fixture is used as a dress rehearsal for the CMRC in November.
Some notable sponsors for the meet included: GT&T, Banks DIH Limited, Hand in Hand, Prem’s Electrical and E-Networks.
