In what it is hoped will be an annual event, the Safe Neighbourhood Council (SNC) of Angoy’s Avenue for the second consecutive year collaborated with the police ranks of ‘B’ Division to honour the top three National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) performers in the community.
The pupils, Alex Mohabir, Shellon Scipio and Shaniel Sulker were recognised at a simple ceremony held on Thursday at the President’s Youth Choice Building, Vryman’s Erven New Amsterdam.
In addition, food hampers were distributed to eight Amerindian families as the organisation merged its Education Month and Amerindian Heritage Month celebrations.
Chairman of the Angoy’s Avenue SNC Indranauth Persaud thanked the ‘B’ Division police ranks for continuing to partner with the residents of the depressed community and working towards making it “safe from criminal elements and giving the youths a positive role model to follow”.
Meanwhile, Comman-der of ‘B’ Division Brian Joseph reiterated his division’s commitment to “support any venture that would empower citizens and assist students with their educational pursuits.”
This year the Guyana Fire Service ‘B’ Division came on board to support the initiative by donating two of the food hampers.
