A businessman yesterday found himself accused of forging a Republic Bank cheque worth over $4 million to obtain office stationery after being held in a police sting operation.
It is alleged that Besham Ganpat, 31, Lot 15 First Street, Industry, during the period August 10 to August 22, 2014, conspired with others and forged a Republic Bank Limited cheque No. 0895939, valued at $4,400,800. He was also accused of obtaining a quantity of office supplies and $252,000 cash from Danaram Chand on August 22. It was further alleged that on the same day at Eccles, Ganpat gave the forged cheque to Chand.
Ganpat denied the charges when they were read to him by
