A 42-year-old gold miner is now a guest of the state after he was found guilty of having narcotics in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Rudolph Carrington called ‘Lando’ of Queenstown, Essequibo Coast was charged on January 27. According to the police facts, on January 24 the police were on patrol at the Anna Regina Market area when they saw Carrington acting in a suspicious manner.
He was stopped and as the police approached he threw something away. The police then picked it up and observed it to be a creamish substance suspected to be cocaine which when weighed amounted to 2 grammes. The man was told of the offense, arrested and charged.
On his first appearance in court, the man who was represented by Attorney Latchmie Dindyal, pleaded not guilty and bail was refused but was later granted in High Court.
Before sentencing was handed down, Dindyal told the court that his client is the sole breadwinner of his family and he was sorry for what he did.
After considering the matter, Magistrate Sunil Scarce imposed a fine of $30,000 on the man and 3 years in prison.
