Days after load shedding exercises were initially scheduled to conclude, the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) has once more extended the exercises. According to a release from the utility company, load shedding will continue until this evening “due to unforeseen circumstances”. The exercises are scheduled to conclude tonight with full restoration of services, GPL said.
“It is envisioned that output be will restored to normalcy by late Tuesday night, thus alleviating the need for further load shedding,” GPL said.
According to GPL, the extension comes after delays in the completion of the major overhaul on the No 4 Diesel Generator (DG) at the Kingston 1 Plant.
In addition, GPL said, the company was forced to replace a damaged turbo charger outlet casing on the No 4 Wartsila DG at the Garden of Eden Plant. Repairs will not be completed prior to the peak demand period, GPL admitted.
For September 30, the Victoria to Bygeval, East Coast Demerara area and Canefield to Auchlyne will be affected from 18:00 to 22:00 hrs.
Meanwhile, the Skeldon facility is scheduled to undergo maintenance activities today and the Nos 1 and 2 turbines will be unavailable from 08:00 hrs to 20:00 hrs.
