Dear Editor,
I refer to my column headlined, ‘There is a powerful Amerindian presence in Guyanese culture’ which appeared in ‘Arts on Sunday’ in the Sunday Stabroek, September 28, 2014. I referred to the works of several researchers, published and unpublished that have contributed to the Amerindian presence in the range of Guyanese literature.
However, I failed to mention Prof Emeritus Sister Mary Noel Menezes, former Professor of History at the University of Guyana, whose name was accidentally omitted. Sister Menezes’s contribution to the corpus of Amerindian studies is considerable. Her publications in this area are unsurpassed by any other Guyanese, and I regret the omission.
Yours faithfully,
Al Creighton
