Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) XI openers Trevon Griffith and Brian Sattaur helped their side inflict an 88-run mauling over the Rest XI Sunday evening in Coach Garvin Nedd’s T20 birthday exhibition match played under lights at the DCC ground.
The two national left-handers were severe during their near 150-run partnership with Sattaur clobbering four fours and seven enormous sixes in his whirlwind 15-ball 59 while his more senior partner Griffith spanked five sixes and six fours in his top score of 86.
Skipper Chris Barnwell struck five fours and muscled two sixes in his brisk 40 steering their team to a mammoth 271 in 20 overs.
No bowler was spared and the unit of highly talented current and ex-players were all put to the sword. Kemo Paul (4-59-0), Jermaine Neblette (1-14-0), skipper Robin Bacchus (3-34-0), Raj Nannan (3-33-0), Dexter “Skip” Williams (3-62-1) Toralva Scipio (4-48-3) and Quincy Richardson (2-24-1), figures reflected the tale of the carnage dished out by the opposition.
In reply the Bacchus-led Rest XI could only muster 183 at the end of their overs with the “Skip” Williams hammering a quick-fire 37 with six fours and a six along with Bacchus who scored an aggressive 36 at the top of the order.
Bowling for the DCC XI Antonell Atwell picked up 2-24, Griffith 2-25, Travis Dowlin 2-25 and a wicket apiece went to Sherfane Rutherford and Kemol Savory.
Earlier Sattaur took an early liking to all operators with the ball, hammering Paul’s first over for 19 as he and Griffith brought up the team’s 50 inside three overs. The massacre continued with the two batsmen matching each other shot-for-shot as officials were forced to toss out a new ball after every few overs.
The century came in eight overs and the pair looked more dangerous as they crept closer to the 150-run mark with nearly half the allotted overs left to be bowled. However, Sattaur was bowled by Williams leaving Barnwell and Griffith to motor on and take their team to the daunting total before their respective demises.
During the Rest XI chase Shemroy Barrington (18) and Bacchus came out with guns blazing before Barrington was trapped LBW. Kemo Paul (18) struck two sixes before he was out while former West Indies-19 batsmen Kwame Crosse came out in attack mode smoking 21 of seven deliveries with three fours and one six.
Top-scorer Williams then launched a counter-attack against his club, but it was to be in vain as he was dismissed a few balls before the overs expired.
