An excellent bowling display by Raj Nanan, who claimed eight wickets in Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) second innings, helped orchestrate a comprehensive 10-wicket victory for Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 1:30 p.m on day two of Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Hadi’s World Incorporated first division two day competition.
Nanan wrecked the hosts’ batting for a second time in the match after taking 8-29 from 13 overs to follow up his first innings figures where he captured 5-10 from 6.2 overs.
MSC were asked to follow on at the resumption of the second day and were routed for 165 in 33 overs. Only skipper Kelon Carmichael (73), Shemroy Barrington (33) and Steven Sankar (20) offered resistance against the spin of Nanan as five batsmen made nought.
Renaldo Ali-Mohamed supported Nanan by picking up two wickets, including that of first class player Steven Jacobs for six.
The hosts, who needed to clear a deficit of 117 to make the visitors bat again, was able to do so leaving a target of 48 for GCC.
However, GCC wasted little time in getting to their target as Robin Bacchus, who raced to 41 ensured his team got their without losing a wicket. The visitors finished with 50 without loss as Bacchus’ opening partner, who played the supporting role was on five when victory was achieved.
Scores in the match; GCC first innings 224 all out in 61.5 overs (Ali-Mohamed 49, Martin Pestano-Belle 47 while Sankar claimed 8-78). GCC second innings 50 without loss in 8.2 overs (Bacchus 41 not out).
MSC first innings 107 all out in 31.2 overs (Jacobs 37 while Nanan 5-10 and Wade 3-24). MSC second innings 165 all out in 33 overs (Carmichael 73 while Nanan 8-29).
